About the Backroad Biker

This is a place to share routes and tips about cycling on the back roads and byways. The routes are primarily in Shimane and the neighboring prefectures of Western Japan.

Rural Japan is scenic and the roads are often practically deserted once you get off the major national routes. That makes it almost ideal for cycling, but to be honest, it helps if you also like hills because one other thing rural Japan is, is hilly.
